If
you purchased a book with a code card or received one from your instructor or
study lab, it will clearly say “GradeSummit” on it and look like this:
.
If
your code card features an Online Learning Center or other product code, it is
not valid for use with GradeSummit.
Please
be careful to enter the access code exactly as it appears on the card. If
you receive an error, copy the error message you receive and go to http://www.mhhe.com/support along with
the access code that appears on your card. We will identify the problem and get
back to you right away.
If
you are using GradeSummit as part of your class (and you are a U.S.
college or university student), you must be linked to a school in order to link
to your Instructor. Note that you can also change your school affiliation at
any time after registration from the Student Welcome Page by clicking on
“Change Profile”.

Your
Professor probably has not yet created a course, or has created a course using
a different textbook than you have selected. You can link your results to your
Professor at any time within GradeSummit (click here for more
information).
Be
sure that:
• Your GradeSummit book selection matches the
book you are using in the course
• You are linked to the correct school
• Your professor has created a course
If
you know your Professor has created a course and are having trouble locating
your Professor, go to http://www.mhhe.com/support
and we’ll track down the problem.
You
can change your school by clicking the “Change Profile” link from the student
Welcome Screen.

After
you logon, you will see a screen that lists your current GradeSummit course(s).

Click
the radio button next to the course you want to link to your Professor, and
click
. On the
next page, click
.
The
system will then search for any professor who has created a course at your
school using your selected textbook. Select your course section and then click
.
Courses
will be listed by Instructor, Course name, Course Number, and Section number.
For
example,
.
You
will then have the option of entering a student ID such as a WebCT ID, but this
is not required. Click
to return to the welcome screen.
Go
to http://www.mhhe.com/support
and provide your name, textbook selected, and what your textbook selection should be.
We’ll switch you to the correct textbook ASAP, and send you and email when
everything is OK. Once you are switched to the correct textbook, you should be
able to add yourself to your Professor’s course.
You
can switch to the correct course section at any time by logging on, selecting
the course, and choosing the
button.

On
the next screen, choose
to change the section of the course you are
enrolled in.
If
your Professor has asked you to use a student ID (such as a WebCT ID, the last
4 digits of your social security number, etc) you can do so by selecting the
course from the screen directly after login, and clicking the “View/Modify
Course Details” button.

On
the Course Details screen, click “update” next to your Student ID:

If
your Student ID reads “None”, choose
.
Re-select the course section you are enrolled in, and you will see this screen:

Enter
your Student ID in the box, and click
.
You
cannot change your GradeSummit username, but you can request that your
password be changed at any time.
Go
to http://www.mhhe.com/support
and provide
·
Your name (first and
last)
·
Your existing
username and password
·
Your school
Let
us know what you would like to change your password to, and we will reset it and
confirm via email to the address the account is registered to. To change the
email address listed on your account, log in and click “Change Profile” next to
your name at the top:

You
can then change your email address and click “submit”. Clicking “reset” will
reset all fields in the Profile form. Please note that your email address is
used by the GradeSummit team to contact you in regards to any possible
problems with your account, or by your Professor to contact you regarding your
course.

You
can find tips for using GradeSummit, creating your own quizzes, and
using your strength and weakness information on our Product Information page.
Click “Product Info” in the left-hand menu bar.

If
your Professor has created an Assignment for you, you will see this alert after
you log in and click “Go to student site”:

If
you believe your professor HAS created an assignment but you do not see this
alert, click here.
By
clicking on the Assignment Alert on your homepage, you will come to this
screen:

This
table lists
·
All active
Assignments
·
Total number of
attempts your Instructor allows for each Assignment
·
Number of attempts
you have already completed
·
Number of attempts
you have remaining
·
Beginning and end
dates and times
·
Time limit (if any)
·
Notes about the
Assignment from your Instructor
Only
active Assignments will appear in this table. An Assignment is active between
the beginning and end dates your Instructor has set. You will not see future or
past Assignments that are not active.
Select
the Assignment you wish to complete from the table, and click
.
This
screen shows the details of an individual Assignment, including whether it is
Incomplete. If your instructor has set a time limit and this is your first
attempt, you will see the total time limit available. If you are resuming an
incomplete Assignment, you will see how much time you have remaining to
complete this Assignment.

Click
under the table to
begin the Assignment.
This
is what the question format looks like:

The
simplified screen does not contain any JAVA-script elements. Please note that
Assignments are available only in “Test mode” and therefore Notes,
Explanations, Answers, etc. are not available in the Assignment area. These
elements are still all available in Practice mode quizzes you create for self-study
purposes.
On
timed Assignments, the clock will refresh every time you click “Next” to move
to the next question. When you have less than 10 minutes remaining, the clock
will turn red (You have 0 hr(s) 6 minute(s) 6 second(s)
to complete this assignment.). When you
have less than 5 minutes remaining, you will receive this warning:

The
system will save your answers to questions each time you click the “Next”
button. You can use the “Previous” button to return to questions, and you may
change your answer to any question before clicking the “Save & Exit”
button. Once you click “Save & Exit”, you will NOT be able to change
answers to questions you have already answered.
You
may click “Save & Exit” at any time and resume an Assignment later,
provided it is before the End date your Instructor has set.
After
you complete your Assignment and click “Save & Exit”, you will see a
minimized results screen:

This
screen shows your overall score. For a more thorough breakdown, click “To see a
more detailed report of your assignment, click here.”
You
will then see the detailed reporting screen. If the Assignment is Incomplete,
only answers to questions you have already answered will be displayed.

IMPORTANT! IF YOUR ASSIGNMENT IS INCOMPLETE THE SCORE REPORTED
ON THIS SCREEN MAY DIFFER FROM THE SCORE REPORTED TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR.

GradeSummit will show you
the score based on the questions you answered correctly over the number of
questions that you attempted. This results in more accurate reporting of your
strengths and weaknesses over the length of the course.
GradeSummit will report
the score to your instructor based on the number of questions you answered
correctly over the total number of questions available on the exam. This is a
more accurate reflection of your performance on the individual assignment.
For
example, if the assignment
· Has a total of 10 questions
· You attempt 6 questions
· You answer all 6 that you attempt
correctly
You
will see something like this:
|
You
answered: |
6
out of 10 questions |
|
Your
score was: |
100%
(6 / 6) |
However,
your instructor will see something like this:
|
Student
A answered: |
6
out of 10 questions |
|
Student
A’s score was: |
60%
(6 / 10) |
If
you believe your instructor has created an Assignment, but you do not see the
Assignment Alert, there may be a problem with the settings on your browser or
you may not be correctly linked to your professor.
Please
be sure that you are correctly linked to your instructor.
If
you are correctly linked but still not seeing the Assignment Alert, try
clicking “Assignments” in the left-hand navigation menu.

This will take you to the Assignments menu. If
there are no active assignments, you will see this:

The
Assignment Alert will appear whenever there is an Active Assignment created for
your course by your Instructor.

If
you have already completed all attempts available to you on the Assignment, you
will not be able to select it (an “N/A” will appear instead of the radio
selection button). This screen will confirm if you have completed all attempts
available to you on the Assignment.
Once
the Assignment expires (the end date and time have passed), it will disappear
completely from this menu even if you have not completed all available
attempts.
Results
from all Assignments (active and expired) are always available to you in the
“My Results” section of your homepage. Just select “View Prior Exams.”

When
there are no more Active Assignments from your Instructor, the Assignment Alert
will disappear from your homepage.
My
Professor has asked us to complete our own quizzing in GradeSummit as
homework, and instructed us to use the “Test” mode instead of “Practice” –
what’s the difference?
In
“Practice” mode, you can view the correct answer and answer explanation for
each question at any time. “Test” mode does not display any of that information
until you have completed the exam and saved and exited using the “save and
exit” button on the bottom right of the GradeSummit console. Your
Professor will be able to see your score and whether the test was completed in
Practice or Test mode.

If
you are linked to a Professor, that Professor can view results data by
course/section for the entire class and individual students. They can see your
scores and your progress, but CANNOT see your Notes, Passwords or other
personal information.
The Take Notes feature allows you to take notes on
individual questions as you create and take practice quizzes (the notes feature
is not available on Assignments).
In the navigation bar inside a practice quiz there
is a button called "Take Notes" (at the top, between the Explanation
button and the Bookmark button).

Click “Take Notes” and a box will appear in the
question area that will allow you to take a note on the question.

The next time you take a quiz, if this question
appears on the practice quiz again, you will be alerted that there is a note on
the question.

Alternatively, if you just want to review the notes
you've taken, you can click "My notes" from your homepage.

Normally
practice quizzes load quickly and without problems, but this can depend on your
connection speed and browser settings.
Sometimes,
a user’s browser will have trouble with the java-script elements in the
navigation menu. This may result in the menu buttons disappearing during the
quiz or quiz results not saving.
This
is most likely a temporary problem between your browser and the java-script
coding. If you experience this, first try logging out and then logging back in.
If
you continue to experience this problem, try loading quizzes in the
"Alternate" format by checking on the button next to that option at
the bottom of the Take Exam menu. This will load a simple exam engine that
contains no java-script code.

Rarely,
a very brief service interruption between the user and the host will cause the
quiz not to submit, resulting in loss of data from that quiz. This can happen
when your phone line (or cable/DSL connection) has a brief, temporary service
lapse. GradeSummit cannot re-instate the results of those quizzes
because that quiz data was not saved on the server.
GradeSummit’s
free trial consists of access to quizzing content for the first three chapters
of any course or text version currently available.
The
product functionality is the same whether you are trying the first three
chapters for free or if you have purchased the product or registered with a
code card packaged with your text. You can link your results to your Instructor
(if your Instructor is using GradeSummit) in either mode.
However,
you will not be able to access any Assignments your professor has created for
you while in the free 3-chapter trial.
You
can upgrade to full access at any time during the free trial by purchasing the
course for $21.75. You can also upgrade your GradeSummit account with an
Access
card (packaged with your textbook or from your Instructor) at any time. After
your account is upgraded you will be able to access assignments your instructor
has created.
The
best way to reach GradeSummit customer support is to go to http://www.mhhe.com/support. We will
respond via email or phone (if you leave us your callback number). Please
include the following information:
· Your name
· Your GradeSummit username
· The course you are enrolled in
· The text product version you are using
· The problem you are experiencing in as much detail
as possible
We
will get back to you quickly to resolve the problem.
